Middle School Hymns Competition

A yearly celebration of Coptic hymnody at St Mark Church — where students prepare, perform, and are judged on two hymns learned by heart.

“I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips.” Psalm 34:1

Competition Rules

To be considered to have successfully completed the hymns competition, you must recite both hymns:
- Golgotha (Verses 1–3) — English (as per the audio version provided)
- Alleluia Fai Pe Pi (Alleluia, This Is the Day) — Coptic
All participants who successfully complete the hymns competition are ranked according to their performance scores (average of all judges).
Hymn lyrics can be read from paper, or recited from memory.
Provided hymn lyrics (wording) must be used. No other lyrics, translation, or wording will be accepted.
Participants are expected to recite the hymns to the tune of the provided audio. Slight variations are expected, but you must stick to the exact tune as much as possible to receive the highest score in that category.
No help is allowed from any person. The judges alone, at their discretion, may prompt a participant to help them resume the hymn if they are stuck. Prompting will result in a loss of marks.
